Espekay STEM Lab

Confidence grows when learners build, iterate, and perform.

Espekay STEM Lab invests in youth STEM and creative problem-solving through hands-on coaching in Odyssey of the Mind and FIRST LEGO League. The goal is not just competition success — it’s creating resilient, curious builders who can explain what they made and why it works. This is future workforce readiness — practiced early, in a way kids actually love.

What we believe: STEM sticks when learners feel ownership.

We coach for confidence and clarity: build something real, test it, improve it, then explain it with pride. That combination develops skills that transfer far beyond competitions.

Results

Odyssey of the Mind (elementary coaching)

Creative problem-solving through building + performance — where learners turn constraints into solutions and explain them with confidence.

  • World Finals 2024: Coached an elementary team to 1st place at Regional and State — advancing to World Finals 2024.
  • Returned to World Finals: Coached an OOTM team to 1st place at State and another World Finals qualification in a later season.

FIRST LEGO League Robotics (2025)

Engineering + programming + innovation storytelling, measured through teamwork and iteration.

  • Qualifying Regional: Earned 3rd place for the Champions Award.
  • State Competition: Earned 3rd place overall at the State level.

How we coach

Build → Test → Improve

Students learn iteration as a normal part of creating — not a sign of failure.

  • Rapid prototypes
  • Simple experiments
  • Visible progress each week

Team culture

We reinforce ownership, respectful feedback, and shared responsibility.

  • Roles that rotate
  • Peer recognition
  • Celebrating small wins

Explain with confidence

Students practice communicating what they built and why it works.

  • Mini demos
  • Storytelling and clarity
  • Practice under time limits

What learners take with them

Competitions are a great motivator — but the lasting value is confidence. Learners carry these skills into future classes, leadership roles, and eventually the workforce: curiosity, resilience, collaboration, and the ability to translate ideas into outcomes.
